current fave director?

I was not trying to hack down Sam Raimi. I have seen A Simple Plan, and The Gift, and everything back to Within the Woods (except Crimewave, which I can't find anywhere. Anyone seen it?). All I was trying to say is that there are other more talented directors, who aren't my favorite. I prefer Raimi because despite being successful, he is still making films with the same enthusiasm and purpose he had making movies as a kid. And in my opinion that is the way to go. As far as style goes, I don't really think he 'ditched' his style with A Simple Plan, more it just evolved.

i have a copy of crimewave on VHS, i loved it, its very quirky and has all his trade mark camera work and best of all it has bruce campbell in it!!

its deleted now but you could always try a video search

I've got Crimewave too.... I liked it too, the producers forced Bruce Campbell out of the lead (and after his performance in Within the Woods, I think he can pull of "geekiness" with surprising flair), recut the film and fired Joe LoDuca and hired another composer. So Sam's not a fan of it.

What about Wes Anderson? Only made three films (bottle rocket, rushmore, royal tenenbaums) and all of them are great. dont get me started on the soundtracks.

Sam Raimi has made one and a half GREAT movies and a whole bunch of movies that are great fun. But not THAT good.

My fave director... Hmmm.... It's a hard question. I would have to go with Michael Bay.

Michael Bays camera work is possibly the worst ive ever seen. Bad Boys and Armageddon were horrible to watch becos of it, regardless of thier boring story lines.

Michael Bay? Really? The cynic in me wants to yell at the op of my lungs a whole list of reasons why Bay is nothing more than a popcorn movie director with the same re-hashed style. But as a director he does have a certain flair for visuals... despite the colour-washed tints.

For the record I was talking the **** when I said Michael Bay. But that's not to say I don't enjoy his movies.

What's wrong with his "Camera work"? What makes it the worst you have ever seen?

I don't think there is anything wrong with his "camera work" In fact I think he manages a LOT of pretty cool set ups. I would say the main fault with his movies can be found in the editing.

As for my fave director... I've been watching and enjoying a lot of John Carpenters work. So maybe I'll go with him.

I've Also been watching a lot of Robert Zemeckis movies. I think he is a great filmmaker.

And there is Speilberg. Filmmaking doesnt get much better than Jaws and Raiders.

So for me it's a toss up between Carpenter, Zemeckis and Speilberg. At this exact moment I'm gonna go with Carpentor.
